In 2009, DGC International responded to a request by the Afghan Ministry of Education for innovative training solutions. To address the obstacle of training infrastructure in Kabul and other major Afghan cities where little training infrastructure exists, DGC International proposed taking mobile training units (MTUs) to government personnel rather than asking trainees to travel to major cities in Afghanistan. Mobile training units are easier to set up, and require far less planning and logistics than building brick and mortar facilities. The MTU solution made it far easier for students to attend class; in many Afghan provinces, roads are difficult to access and other means of transportation are unavailable or very costly. These individuals were then able to execute basic maintenance for generators, construction equipment and HVACs.
